8 Conversations To Have With Your Son – Kids & Child Skill Development Books For Parents
$11.99
We typically think of instilling respect, love and courteousness into our kids, which is great and needed. However, John Martin Sr. goes a different route with this book. His reflection of conversations over the span of 20 years, raising his son, a young African- American male, created more of a creative challenge. He realized quickly that his serious task of molding a responsible human being, was to ingest as much self-esteem as possible into his son. These conversations spark dialogue that focuses on being self-aware and knowing your strengths and weaknesses. John offers great insight from dealing with being a young parent and making sure the communication stays a two-way street, to dealing with emotions and how to discipline yourself at a young age. Any serious parent can gain from this writing and add these conversations to their dinner table.

Wow. That’s first thing. I’m going to try to explain. Ok so you had me at the introduction. Then I get into it and I have to put it down for a sec. There’s some hard truths I saw about myself. I saw that I may be failing my son in some ways. But I continued. I really appreciate this and I feel like it was more for me or just as much for me as him. There is so much knowledge wisdom and just 100 real info in there. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I really feel you are gifted and blessed and you should share your wisdom with Young men. Seminars? Something so that the masses can hear. You truly brought me to tears with this one. It was an easy read and just felt like you were actually having a conversation! So good. ***** (five stars). So professional. Love.

I just finished 8 conversations and I thoroughly enjoyed it.I appreciated the lessons that you shared about how you raised jr. What I found that I wanted to know more about was the area in which you gave him the 12 principles to live by. While I understand you are giving the reader the opportunity to incorporate their own daily principles, I felt that as a woman reader / mother this was an opportunity for you as a father / man to share exactly what worked for you & Jr that I would be able to share with my son.
I enjoyed the background that you gave which led into the wonderful changes that you’ve made for yourself that you were able to recognize were important as a father. I’m very grateful that you wrote this read and John I can’t wait to see how far you go with this. It is also very encouraging that you speak on using an individual’s platform or strength to be a hand up to someone else

This is such a great short- read. My son, then 10, and I both read this book twice. Its easy to comprehend and is full of conversations that can be had at any age of childhood. This book also provokes self- reflection. A few takeaways for us; “you have the power to build or destroy,” “lead not be lead,’ and “get in touch with your emotions.”

I have read both the conversations to have with your son and the conversations to have with yourself books and the author John is so open in his personal stories that it makes you reflect on your own life and ways to make better decisions and teach your children how to make better decisions. I will definitely use the knowledge I took from John’s books to apply to my daily life. I am purchasing the conversations to have with a co-parent today. I am really excited to read this one as well. I highly recommended these books. Keep up the good work John!!
